Walk into any sporting event in the United States of America on any day of the year, and you will hear a resounding reminder of The War of 1812 The Star Spangled Banner. Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem after watching the British Navy attempt to destroy the city of Baltimore. Originally titled The Defense of Fort McHenry, the poem was later put to music and adopted as Americas National Anthem.
