Perhaps the most famous battle in the war was the Battle of New Orleans, which, ironically, occurred after a truce had been signed, but news had yet to reach the front. The Battle of New Orleans pitted future president Andrew Jackson against a large British invading force, and Jacksons battlefield tactics led to an overwhelming American victory on January 8, 1815 a battle that lasted less than half an hour.
