McKnight clan histories, surnames and last names

The McKnight (Macnaghten) clan is of pictish origin claiming descent from the Pictish King Nechtan. King Nechtan died in 621 AD. He ruled for 24 years. He was ruler of all pictish provinces after returning from Ireland after being expelled by his brother. He promised to St. Brigid Abernethy after she professed that he would reclaim the kingdoms of the Picts and rule peacefully.

The McKnight clan at first did not support Robert I at Bannockburn but later changed allegiance in support. The Clan supported Charles I during the Civil wars of the 17th century. The Chiefship is vested in Macnaghten of Dunderave, Baronet.
